Coaching Global Nomadic Leaders

Global Nomadic Leaders present particular challenges for the executive coach.

Global Nomadic Leaders are individuals whose developmental years have been marked by frequent geographic transitions and multiple cultural influences. They have developed a sense of belonging to both home culture and cultures of the host countries they lived in. As a result, elements from different cultures are blended, producing a “third” culture. This early experience of moving multiple times to various countries becomes part of their cultural identity.

When these individuals assume leadership positions in the corporate world, they bring specific attributes that contribute to their mastery of a constantly evolving global world. But this may come at a cost. They might have unresolved grief, a sense of loneliness and a feeling of not belonging. It is critical that coaches and HR understand the particular challenges involved in coaching or managing this population.
